Ukraine and Japan Expand Business Partnership and Launch New Joint Projects

Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko held a meeting with a delegation from Japan, which included representatives from Japanese government structures and businesses. She noted the growing interest of Japanese companies in working in Ukraine and emphasized the Ukrainian side’s interest in involving Japan in the restoration of industrial enterprises destroyed due to the aggression of the Russian Federation. This process involves the supply of modern equipment for Ukrainian industry.

New Programs and Support from Japan

On July 4, in Kyiv, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) together with the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine organized a business event aimed at developing partnership relations between the two countries. The Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, highlighted Tokyo’s ongoing support for Ukraine, noting that the total amount of assistance has already exceeded 12 billion US dollars. In addition, he reminded that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) together with UNIDO launched a program to promote cooperation between Japanese and Ukrainian companies. A similar initiative is being implemented by JETRO.

“Thanks to these programs, over 50 Japanese companies have already started or plan to start new projects in Ukraine together with local partners,” the diplomat emphasized.

Areas of Cooperation and Prospects

Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Andriy Telyupa reported on the launch of a joint program with METI to support technology transfer and expand the presence of Japanese companies in the Ukrainian market, particularly through the establishment of joint ventures in the field of green technologies. Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Oksana Osymachko noted the priority of cooperation in the agro-processing sector and food industry.

METI emphasized that the Japanese government remains committed to supporting and restoring Ukraine. Currently, within the framework of the cooperation promotion program, 30 projects have already been approved in areas such as agriculture, automotive, energy, IT, lifting equipment, and others.
