The studio Distinct Possibility Studios, founded by John Smedley, known for developing the iconic games EverQuest and PlanetSide, has successfully raised $30.5 million in investments to create an innovative open-world MMOFPS with Web3 technology support.

A New Level of Interaction in Multiplayer Games
The studio’s main product will be the game Reaper Actual Foundation — a AAA-class first-person multiplayer shooter. The project has been in development for about two years, and the developers plan to release a preliminary alpha version very soon. A key feature of the game will be the deep integration of Web3 functionalities, allowing users to exchange and trade tokenized items, such as skins and bases, created on the Etherlink network.
The investment round was led by Bitkraft and Brevan Howard. All funds raised will be directed towards further development and enhancement of the game.
Web3 Opportunities for Players
With the implementation of Web3, players will be able to earn unique in-game items in the form of tokens, which can not only be used in the game but also exchanged or sold to other users. To start in the game, players will need to purchase a base along with a unique character; however, in the future, the developers plan to transition to a free access model.
“Tezos Foundation and the Etherlink development team share our vision that the game is paramount. They prioritized creating a network that reflects this; it is clearly stated in their slogan: ‘Play, Own, Trade,’” Smedley stated.
The full release of Reaper Actual Foundation is scheduled for early 2026. At launch, the developers aim to build an active community of players who will become the core of the project.
According to market data, in June 2025 alone, startups in the Web3 and blockchain sectors raised over $2.8 billion in investments, indicating a strong interest in innovative gaming projects incorporating blockchain technologies.
