- GPU owners can rent out their computing power and earn rewards in Toncoin (TON).
- The Cocoon network facilitates AI request processing through a distributed infrastructure, ensuring a high level of privacy.
- Future plans include expanding functionality and introducing new features for Telegram users.
Features of the Decentralized Cocoon Network
The decentralized Cocoon platform was created as an alternative to centralized computing resource providers like Amazon and Microsoft. Pavlo Durov, co-founder of Telegram, emphasizes that these companies often act as intermediaries, increasing the cost of computing and reducing the level of data protection for users.
“Cocoon, for its part, allows requests to be executed without transferring data to centralized operators,” the entrepreneur emphasized.
The platform offers developers tools to perform artificial intelligence tasks without sharing sensitive information with third-party corporations. The launch of Cocoon is accompanied by the release of detailed documentation and source code, promoting transparency and trust in the new network.
Impact on the AI Market and Future Plans
Cocoon is positioned as a response to current challenges in the field of privacy and data control. Privacy advocates and some experts believe that the concentration of computing power in large corporations can lead to negative social consequences.
In 2024, researchers from the Dfinity Foundation, along with the Onicai team, proposed ethical principles for AI development, including the use of open blockchains to ensure transparency. A survey conducted by the Digital Currency Group revealed that out of 2036 respondents, 77% believe that decentralized AI infrastructure is more beneficial to society than centralized solutions.
Pavlo Durov emphasizes that Cocoon was created to return control of personal data to users and reduce dependence on large resource providers. In the coming weeks, the Cocoon team is preparing to scale the network: connecting new GPUs and attracting developers, as well as integrating additional AI features for Telegram users with full privacy.
Pavlo Durov also previously announced the opening of an AI laboratory in Kazakhstan.
