Strategic Changes in the S&P 500 and Their Impact

The new entrants to the S&P 500 will replace MarketAxess Holdings Inc., Caesars Entertainment Inc., and Enphase Energy Inc. This decision reflects Robinhood’s significant impact on the retail investor market, especially considering its role in boosting the popularity of stock trading among a wide range of users during the pandemic.

“Robinhood’s entry into the S&P 500 is not only an important milestone for the company itself but also for the investment boom it has helped to create,” the statement noted.

Following the announcement of its inclusion in the index, Robinhood’s shares rose by more than 7% in after-hours trading. AppLovin’s shares increased by 7.5%, while Emcor’s rose by 2.5%. Analysts believe that being included in the S&P 500 enhances the liquidity and recognition of companies, as their shares are automatically included in the portfolios of index funds, pension, and savings programs worldwide.

Robinhood’s Achievements and Its Role in the Market

Robinhood was founded in 2013 by Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt. The platform quickly gained popularity due to its 0% commission and user-friendly app. Robinhood became the primary platform for trading so-called “meme stocks,” such as GameStop and AMC, as retail investors banded together en masse to buy these securities.

Currently, the company manages client assets worth billions of dollars, including cryptocurrencies and derivatives. Robinhood’s inclusion in the S&P 500 strengthens the platform’s position as one of the key players in the fintech and digital finance market. The company joins other crypto-oriented participants in the index, including Coinbase Global Inc. and Block Inc.

It is worth noting that in May 2025, Coinbase became the first cryptocurrency exchange in history to be included in the S&P 500. On September 1 of this year, the company Strategy met all necessary criteria for inclusion but was not added to the index despite its strong financial performance.
