Focus on PoS and Agglayer: Strategic Steps for Polygon

Nailwal announced that in 2026, the team will cease support for the zkEVM solution to fully concentrate on two key areas: the Polygon PoS blockchain and the Agglayer platform. According to him, the Polygon PoS network will continue to focus on stablecoin payments and the tokenization of real assets. At the same time, Agglayer will become the primary platform for integrating various blockchain networks.

The CEO of Polygon Foundation also announced the first roadmap update called Gigagas, which is already available on the test network. This update will allow the platform’s throughput to increase to over 1000 transactions per second by early July. Future plans include reducing transaction finalization time to less than one second and increasing throughput to over 5000 TPS by autumn.

New Vision for Development and Educational Initiatives

In the long term, the Polygon team plans to scale the network to over 100,000 transactions per second. The updated version of Agglayer is nearly ready for launch — its release is scheduled for the week starting June 30. The only missing feature is fast interaction between blockchains, which is expected to be implemented by the end of the third quarter of 2025. The Agglayer Breakout program will enable the launch of new projects within the ecosystem and conduct airdrops for POL stakers.

Zero-knowledge technology will remain a priority, but it will be developed in a neutral format. A new direction called Polygon ZisK will be established under the leadership of Jordi Bailina.

To support the transition from MATIC to POL, Nailwal announced a series of educational initiatives. A key element of communication will be the Polygon brand, while the name Agglayer will be used solely as an infrastructure component.

“With a healthy balance and several hundred million in cash, we are in a great position to continue building long-term infrastructure without distractions and pressure to raise funding,” said the CEO of Polygon Foundation.

It is worth noting that earlier, Polygon co-founder Mykhailo Belych left the project, resigning from his position.
