The US May Announce the Creation of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve by the End of 2025

У Galaxy Digital очікують формування біткоїн-резерву США до кінця 2025 року

In the United States, discussions about the creation of a national strategic bitcoin reserve are becoming increasingly frequent. According to cryptocurrency market experts, the likelihood of an official announcement regarding the formation of such a reserve is growing, and key steps have already been taken at the highest political level.

Government-Level Steps

Alex Thorn, head of the research department at Galaxy Digital, stated that by the end of 2025, the US may officially announce the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve. In his opinion, the market has not yet fully realized the potential impact that the status of the leading cryptocurrency as a strategic asset in government policy may have. Thorn also emphasized that the White House and Congress have already begun working in this direction: in March, President Donald Trump signed an executive order regarding the formation of a digital asset reserve, including bitcoin. However, a detailed plan is currently under development, and this week a bill was introduced in Congress requiring the US Department of the Treasury to prepare a technical report on the opportunities and risks of such a move.

I still believe there is a strong likelihood that the US government will announce this year that it has formed a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) and officially holds BTC as a strategic asset. The market seems to be completely underestimating the probability of such an announcement

Various Predictions and International Context

In the Trump administration, it was confirmed that the project to create a strategic reserve remains relevant, although minimal attention was given to this direction in a recent political report. Market participants express varying opinions about the timeline for implementation. Former CoinRoutes CEO Dave Weisberger believes that decisions may only be made in 2026, as the administration is taking a pragmatic approach to this issue and is not rushing into a formal announcement without achieving priority goals.

Bitcoin supporters, in turn, warn of risks for the US if the implementation of the strategy is delayed. Jan3 founder Samson Mow warned back in June that Washington could lose its leadership in this area if it does not start purchasing bitcoin this year. In his view, “the risk is that they will be outpaced by Pakistan.”

At the global level, interest in creating cryptocurrency reserves is also growing. In several countries, authorities are actively working on relevant legislation, developing regulations, and announcing plans to form national reserves of digital assets. For example, Kyrgyzstan has already passed a bill regulating the crypto industry and creating a state crypto reserve.
