Improving Transport Connections Between Ukraine and the EU

In addition to the Ukrainian project, the EU supports other initiatives that will promote the development of railway connections between European countries and Ukraine. In particular, the modernization of a 143-kilometer section of the railway from Ploiești to Focșani in Romania is planned with funding of €45 million. In Slovakia, a 10-kilometer section from Vidrnik to Spišská Nová Ves will be modernized (€97.3 million), and a connection from Košice to Čierna nad Tisou will be prepared (€32.2 million).

The Importance of Projects for Regional Trade

The planned projects will contribute to strengthening the Solidarity Corridors between the EU and Ukraine, as well as transitioning to the European standard gauge. This will significantly simplify cross-border rail movement and enhance regional trade.

“In total, 77% of the funding is allocated for rail transport. Grant agreements are expected to be finalized by October 2025.”
