Measures Taken to Protect Users

Bithumb, one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges in the region, has swiftly responded to the incident by implementing a series of security measures for its users. The exchange announced that it has launched real-time monitoring of USIM card forgery to prevent further use of counterfeit SIM cards by criminals and to protect user accounts.

“Bithumb is proactively responding to the incident with SK Telecom so that you can safely use our services through real-time monitoring of USIM card forgery.”

Security Measures and Recommendations for Users

The cryptocurrency platform has strengthened its security policy, including implementing identity verification in cases of suspected use of cloned phones, automatic notifications upon account login, blocking access from foreign IP addresses, and monitoring accounts that may have been compromised. To avoid potential losses, users are advised to enable additional protection for USIM cards and to replace SIM cards in the event of confirmed leaks.

At the time of publication, it is unknown how many users have been affected by the data leak. Earlier in March 2025, a search was conducted at Bithumb’s headquarters in Seoul, and in April, the exchange announced a restructuring ahead of its public listing.
