Areas of Funding and Distribution of Funds

The funds allocated by the EIB are distributed among various projects that include improvements to urban transport, energy conservation, and the development of municipal services. In particular, €28 million will be directed towards upgrading public transport: Kyiv, Lviv, and Mykolaiv will receive new buses, Zaporizhzhia, Ternopil, and Kremenchuk will get trolleybuses, Dnipro and Kamianske will receive trams, and Uzhhorod will get electric buses.

An additional €13.3 million will go towards the modernization of municipal infrastructure. In Dnipro and Kamianske, updates to lighting systems are planned, in Lutsk, improvements to water supply will be made, in Sumy, energy efficiency in schools and kindergartens will be enhanced, and in Lviv, the waste management system will be modernized.

Furthermore, €4.9 million will be directed towards increasing energy efficiency in schools, kindergartens, and medical facilities in Rivne, Kortezh, and Kovel.

European Support in Times of War

“This support comes at a critical moment when Russia is intensifying its attacks on civilian infrastructure. The European Commission plans to continue close cooperation with the EIB, utilizing the Ukrainian assistance program to provide vital support to Ukraine and its people,” the EC stated.

The current initiative demonstrates consistent support from European institutions aimed at strengthening essential services in Ukraine’s municipalities, which is particularly relevant in light of the increasing threats to civilian infrastructure.
