After the war ends, Ukraine will focus on rebuilding its destroyed infrastructure and housing, which will contribute to the growth of domestic steel consumption. Before the war, the country exported about 80% of its produced semi-finished products and finished metal products, but now a significant portion of metallurgical output will be aimed at meeting domestic needs. However, due to the loss of some production capacities, the demand for imported steel will remain high, especially in the flat and shaped steel segments.

Prospects for Steel Imports in Ukraine
With the start of recovery efforts and the growth of the domestic market, an increase in demand for imported steel products is expected. Although domestic production will gradually recover, it is unlikely to fully satisfy the growing demand, making imports an important factor in meeting the needs of Ukrainian industry and construction.
“Overall, after the war ends, an activation of the steel market is expected, which will stimulate imports and domestic production, contributing to the country’s economic recovery,” experts note.
