Predictability of Ukraine’s Trade Flows to the EU Without Tariffs

Україна зможе забезпечити передбачуваність торгових потоків до ЄС без тарифів.

Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka emphasized during the discussion “The Future of Ukraine-EU Trade Relations” that Ukraine is capable of ensuring predictability in trade flows to the European Union, which would be more effective than the introduction of tariffs on Ukrainian agricultural products planned by the European Commission after the expiration of autonomous trade measures on June 5.

This initiative concerns agreements between Kyiv and Brussels for 2023-2024, which involve regional control over the export of grain products from Ukraine to five neighboring EU countries, as well as the introduction of an export licensing system in Ukraine.

“We listen to the concerns of our partners. We are convinced that we can ensure predictability in trade flows from Ukraine to the EU better than any tariffs,” he noted.

Kachka also reminded that Ukraine is a significant importer of resources and goods necessary for agricultural production from the EU. Therefore, the products supplied to Ukraine have a European component and should not be subject to biased treatment. He emphasized that Ukraine is an important partner for the EU farming community, as Ukrainian agricultural products help maintain price stability in the European Union market and cover shortages.
