During a press conference at the White House, President of the United States Donald Trump expressed the possibility of imposing secondary sanctions against Russia, which could target countries purchasing Russian oil. This could happen if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not take action to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Trump expressed confidence that the Kremlin leader would find a way to fulfill his obligations and reach a peace agreement: “I want him to make a deal so we can stop the killing of Russian soldiers, Ukrainian soldiers, and other people. I do not want to impose secondary tariffs on his oil, but I think I would do so if I believed he was not doing his job,” Trump noted.
Potential consequences for Russia
Analyst Clyde Russell believes that Putin may agree to concessions to Trump if he realizes the seriousness of his threats. This could lead to the loss of two key buyers of Russian oil – India and China. In such a case, these countries may soon begin active negotiations regarding the threats posed by the United States.
India seeks new supply sources
At the same time, India has already begun an urgent search for alternative oil supply sources in the Middle East, the North Sea, and the Mediterranean. This indicates that the situation in global oil markets may change if new sanctions are imposed.
