The US is currently not planning to impose new sanctions on Russia. According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Washington is striving for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and is avoiding measures that could complicate the diplomatic process.

“The President truly wishes to achieve a peace agreement. If such an agreement is not reached, the US has the necessary tools to hold those responsible for the unwillingness to pursue peace accountable,” — he noted.
He stated that the US hopes to help Russia and Ukraine move closer to signing a peace agreement. “If you start imposing sanctions, you are effectively moving away from negotiations and condemning yourself to another two years of war. We do not want that,” — Rubio emphasized.
Discussion of sanctions on Russian energy and Germany’s position
While the White House is considering the possibility of easing sanctions on Russian energy, disagreements have arisen in Germany regarding this issue. German Social Democratic Party representative Nina Scheer stated that
“American sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG have been illegal from the very beginning. If these steps help achieve a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and end the war, they should be supported.”
At the same time, she emphasized that this does not change Germany’s commitments to transition to renewable energy sources.
The German Ministry of Economy officially stated that the resumption of operations of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is not under consideration. Michael Gahler, spokesperson for the European People’s Party in the European Parliament, emphasized:
“The new German government will not allow the resumption of Nord Stream 2. We will not repeat the mistakes of the past.”
