The Cabinet of Ministers has announced its intention to implement a large-scale project to expand the network of European standard railway tracks in Ukraine. Following the launch of the first such track on the Chop – Uzhhorod section, the government’s plans include the construction of ten more routes that will connect Ukrainian regions with the European Union’s transport system.

Railway Infrastructure Development Strategy
Minister of Development Oleksii Kuleba emphasized that the gradual integration of Ukrainian regions into the European railway network is already embedded in the Recovery Strategy. This process fully aligns with the overarching European plans for the development of TEN-T transport corridors. According to the minister, the next key step will be the construction of the euro-track from the border with Poland to Lviv, which will transform Lviv into a major transport hub between Ukraine and the EU.
“The next big step is the euro-track from the Polish border to Lviv. This will make Lviv a transport hub at the intersection of the EU and Ukraine,” said Kuleba.
Route Expansion and European Integration
The government also plans to create new sections of the euro-track in the Transcarpathian and Volyn regions. This will enable the organization of additional routes with the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland, as well as provide a new freight corridor that will connect Ukraine’s industrial centers with EU ports and markets.
Oleksii Kuleba held talks with Magda Kopczyńska, the Director for Transport at the European Commission, regarding the further integration of Ukraine into the EU’s common transport space. Among the topics discussed were the signing of an agreement on road transport, the development of Ukrainian ports on the Danube, and the adaptation of national transport legislation to European Union standards.
