The state company «Ukrzaliznytsia» (UZ) plans to write off up to 60,000 worn-out and long-term operated freight wagons. This step stimulates the renewal of rolling stock and provides the metallurgy sector with the necessary raw material resources. This was announced by Valerii Tkachov, Deputy Director of the Commercial Department of UZ, during the conference «Metal Expert – Ukraine’s Ferrous Metallurgy 2025».

«We are in great need of new wagons, locomotives, and investments in infrastructure to support and develop the railway transport sector,» he noted. According to Tkachov, the write-off of old wagons opens up opportunities for modernizing the rolling stock and increasing its efficiency, which positively impacts the logistics and economy of the country.

The Importance of Renewing the Railway Fleet for the Metallurgy Sector

Renewing the rolling stock is critical for the stable operation of metallurgical enterprises, as worn-out wagons negatively affect the speed and cost of raw material delivery. According to experts, writing off up to 60,000 wagons will not only modernize the fleet but also ensure the metallurgy sector has the necessary volumes of raw materials.
