Western Companies Explore Ways to Restore Business with Russia Amid Possible Easing of Sanctions

Західні компанії на тлі політики Трампа активно консультуються з приводу відновлення бізнесу з РФ.

Western commodity traders, insurance companies, and maritime operators are increasingly turning to legal experts for consultations on restoring business ties with Russia. This is driven by the potential lifting or easing of American sanctions, which could alter the geopolitical and economic landscape of the region.

Journey to Restoring Cooperation

Following the extensive sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many Western companies halted their operations in the Russian market. However, experts say there is a growing interest in possible business structuring schemes that would allow for the legal resumption of trade in the event of a relaxation of restrictions.

Differences in Sanctions and Prospects for Easing

Legal consultants note that historically, U.S. sanctions have typically been stricter than European ones. However, experts predict that even if American measures are eased, most Western companies will remain constrained by European sanctions.

“Most multinational companies are likely to maintain restrictions in accordance with European legislation,” says an expert. “This means that the lifting of American sanctions will not automatically pave the way for a full restoration of business with Russia.”
