Project Characteristics and Objectives
According to the plans, the construction of the plant will take place in stages, over three phases. It is expected to create around 500 new jobs for local residents. The main goal of the project is to produce high-quality metal products for the domestic market and for export, which will contribute to the development of the region’s industrial sector.
Expected Timelines and Future Collaborations
The first phase of the plant is expected to be launched as early as October of this year. The regional governor Khairullo Bozorov noted that work on the project is progressing rapidly. In addition, the parties discussed the prospects for joint infrastructure development near the future production site.
“Work on the project is progressing rapidly,” the governor stated.
Previously, last autumn, the Kazakh company Qarmet (formerly ArcelorMittal Temirtau) and the Chinese company Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes Co. signed an agreement to build a plant for the production of high-strength cast iron pipes with spheroidal graphite, with a capacity of 200,000 tons per year in Kazakhstan. The project will cost 161 million dollars. The produced products will be used for construction and modernization projects of the country’s housing and communal infrastructure. Additionally, Qarmet has entered into a long-term cooperation agreement with China Metallurgical Group Corporation worth 1 billion dollars, covering the mining and metallurgical sectors.
