Innovative Technologies and Environmental Initiatives

Emsteel holds a 10% share in the manufacturing sector of Abu Dhabi and occupies 60% of the steel market in the United Arab Emirates, with its products exported to more than 70 countries. The CEO emphasizes that innovation is a strategic priority that provides the company with competitive advantages and protection against market fluctuations, challenges in global supply chains, and changes in the regulatory environment.

Key areas of development include digitalization and the application of advanced manufacturing technologies. One of the most significant innovations is carbon capture technology, as well as collaboration with Masdar to launch the region’s first pilot project for producing “green” steel using hydrogen. The project is already fully operational, and within its framework, the production of environmentally friendly steel has begun, which is crucial for the sustainable development of the industry.

“With a capacity of 2.1 MW, the pilot project can produce 368 tons of “green” hydrogen per year, allowing for the annual output of up to 5,000 tons of eco-friendly steel,” said Said Gumran Al Remeiti.

In addition to carbon capture technologies and green steel production, the company is implementing water circulation systems, heat recovery initiatives, and the use of alternative raw materials to improve environmental performance. Efforts are also focused on implementing ambitious projects in sustainable production.

Decarbonization Strategy for 2030 and 2050

In February of this year, Emsteel presented its strategic decarbonization program. By 2030, the company aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its steel and cement sectors by 40% and 30%, respectively, compared to 2019 levels. The ultimate goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, reaffirming the company’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
