Detailed Export and Import Statistics for Metal Products
According to the information, the volume of long product exports for the month decreased by 11.8% year-on-year and by 9.3% month-on-month, amounting to 66.97 thousand tons. At the same time, the volume of flat products decreased by 12.3% year-on-year but increased by 7% compared to the previous month, reaching 53.12 thousand tons.
The largest export volumes were noted for coated flat products (HS – 7210) — 16.05 thousand tons (+27.5% year-on-year and +68.6% month-on-month), as well as carbon steel wire (HS – 7217) — 13.54 thousand tons (-24.4% year-on-year and +1.9% month-on-month). A significant share is also held by twisted bars and rods made of carbon steel without further processing (HS – 7214) — 13.54 thousand tons (-6.7% year-on-year and +23.5% month-on-month), as well as hot-rolled flat products — 13.52 thousand tons (-48.9% year-on-year and -12.4% month-on-month).
Regarding imports, in January 2025, it increased by 6.4% compared to last year and by 2.6 times month-on-month, totaling 961.64 thousand tons. In particular, long products were supplied at a volume of 67.66 thousand tons (+17.4% year-on-year and +66.2% month-on-month), while flat products amounted to 893.98 thousand tons (+5.7% year-on-year and +2.8 times month-on-month).
Among the key imported products, the following should be noted:
- hot-rolled flat products (HS-7208) — 518.95 thousand tons (-6.7% year-on-year and +2.6 times month-on-month);
- coated flat products (HS – 7210) — 210.62 thousand tons (+15.9% year-on-year and +11.1 times month-on-month);
- corrosion-resistant flat products (HS – 7219) — 60.52 thousand tons (+107.1% year-on-year and +57.8% month-on-month);
- alloyed flat products (HS – 7225) — 53.6 thousand tons (+24.7% year-on-year and +95.9% month-on-month).
According to the data, in 2024, Italy reduced steel production by 5% compared to 2023, totaling 20 million tons. In December 2024, metallurgists cut steel output by 8.8% compared to December 2023 and by 33.4% compared to the previous month, reaching 1.199 million tons. The production of section steel for the year amounted to 11.7 million tons, which is 0.2% less than in 2023, while flat steel production was 8.6 million tons (-9.7% year-on-year). This indicates a slight decrease in the production of section steel, attributed to increased construction activity. At the same time, the weakness of the automotive and industrial sectors, as well as a high level of imports, negatively impacted the production of flat products.
