Ukraine Reveals Reserves of Critical Minerals to Attract Investments

Україна верифікувала запаси критично важливих мінералів задля залучення коштів іноземних інвесторів.

The State Geological and Subsoil Service has completed the verification and published consolidated data on the reserves of critical and strategic minerals found in Ukrainian deposits. The new report includes a list of unlicensed deposits and subsoil areas containing mineral resources, as well as rare earth metals. Most of these deposits are open for development by potential investors.

Reserves of Key Minerals: Iron Ore, Vanadium, Germanium

The report mentions 60 deposits of iron ore, of which 35 are currently undeveloped. Ukraine has established reserves of vanadium; however, industrial extraction is still absent, although technologies for extracting this metal already exist. Out of 13 complex vanadium deposits, six are currently being developed.

The country also possesses significant reserves of germanium — out of 208 sites, 69 are being developed. Regarding titanium ores, Ukraine is aware of 28 deposits, most of which have a high level of geological exploration. Of these, 12 are being developed.

Potential of Rare Earth Metals and Strategic Resources

The list also contains information on metals such as tantalum and niobium. Ukraine is known to have five deposits of these metals, but extraction is conducted in small volumes at only two of them.

“Ukraine has deposits of rare earth elements TR₂O₃, although it does not extract them. One such deposit, Petrovо-Hnutivske, is similar in content and composition to deposits like ‘Mountain Pass’ in the USA and ‘Bayan-Obo’ in China, which are the largest in the world. However, some of the deposits that are currently undeveloped are located in temporarily occupied territories or along the front lines of combat.”

By publishing such a detailed report, Ukraine aims to attract foreign investments in the development of the mining sector, creating transparent conditions for access to strategically important resources. However, it is worth noting that some deposits are located in temporarily occupied territories or in areas of active combat, complicating their development.
