Reforms in Management and Technology

In the six months following the “relaunch,” the Cosmos blockchain has gained new leadership and unified Cosmos Hub and the broader ecosystem around a common strategy. A key innovation was the introduction of the unified technical platform, Cosmos Stack, which attracted over 30 new projects to the updated network.

“Cosmos is no longer just a technology. It is a vision of an open and interconnected global economy that is gaining momentum,” stated Interchain Labs.

Among the main achievements of the first half of the year:

  • Integration of IBC v2, which opened Cosmos for interaction with networks such as Ethereum, Starknet, XRP, and Bitcoin.
  • Creation of interoperable infrastructure (Eureka + Skip:Go), where Cosmos Hub serves as the asset router.
  • Release of Cosmos SDK v0.53 and active use of Cosmos EVM on over 5 independent blockchains.
  • Conducting a thorough security audit and collaborating with new partner Asymmetric Research.
  • Launch into mainnet or announcement of the launch of dozens of projects, including Ripple, Ondo Finance, Initia, Polaris, Fairblock, and more.
  • Initiation of collaboration with Web2 institutions — central banks, SWIFT, Tether, Toki, Progmat, which are already testing the Cosmos Stack platform.

New Strategic Focus and Plans for 2025

The Interchain Foundation announced a change in direction: instead of hosting smart contracts, Cosmos Hub is becoming a marketplace for services for L1 networks, focusing on interoperability, enhanced security, and access to trading instruments. The launch of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) on Cosmos Hub has been postponed due to high costs and risks to user experience.

At the same time, the development of the Cosmos EVM Stack for creating independent L1 networks compatible with EVM (including Ripple, TAC, Babylon) will continue. Cosmos will also continue to support CosmWasm in collaboration with Hadron Labs, which have become the primary curators of this direction.

The organization emphasized that the main focus is on developing services based on IBC, particularly Eureka, oracles, and access to centralized exchanges.

By the end of 2025, the Cosmos team plans to:

  • Strengthen the hub’s role as a service node for the L1 network ecosystem.
  • Expand the functionality of IBC Eureka and test new monetization models.
  • Prepare Cosmos for the implementation of a long-term strategy for the next decade.
  • Support teams working on ATOM/Hub, regardless of their decisions about future development — whether to remain in the ecosystem, create their own chain, or move to other platforms.

“The new Cosmos is just six months old, but already has a clear focus and ambition for the next 10 years,” the statement reads.

In December 2023, the Interchain Foundation allocated $26.4 million for the development of the Cosmos ecosystem, which allowed for the acceleration of the network’s strategic initiatives.
