Як за час незалежності змінювалася в Україні демографічна ситуація?

Since gaining independence, Ukraine has undergone significant changes in its demographic situation, particularly marked by a steady decline in the birth rate. In 1990-1991, Ukraine recorded 657,200 and 630,800 births respectively, while in 2024 this figure has decreased to just 176,100 (data from controlled territories). This indicates a decline in the birth rate of more than 70%.

Trends in Birth Rates in Ukraine

From 1990 to 2001, the number of children born in Ukraine decreased by almost half, reaching 376,500 newborns in 2001. Following this, there was a brief surge when the rate increased, peaking at 512,500 in 2009. However, since 2012, the demographic situation has begun to deteriorate again.

Since 2014, excluding the occupied territories, the birth rate has gradually declined. In 2014, there were 465,900 births, while in 2021 this figure rose only to 273,800.

Mortality Situation

The highest mortality rate in Ukraine was observed from 1993 to 2009, during which over 700,000 people died each year. However, since 2010, the mortality rate has begun to decrease.
