Sunflower and Soybean Oils Fueled Growth

The largest contribution to the increase in exports came from sunflower oil: its supply volumes more than doubled in both physical and monetary terms – over 120%. Growth was also recorded for soybean oil, with exports increasing by approximately 28%.

Export Geography and Trends in the Global Market

The main consumers of Ukrainian vegetable oils in October were the countries of the European Union, which accounted for nearly 60% of total exports. A significant share of 35.2% went to Asian countries. Key importers included the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, and India.

In October, the global price index for vegetable oil moved against the overall trend in the food market and rose by 0.9%, reaching its highest level since July 2022.

The increase in prices for various types of oils – palm, rapeseed, soybean, and sunflower – is attributed to several factors, including the mandatory use of biofuels worldwide and delays in the harvest in the Black Sea region.

At the same time, analysts believe that this year’s harvest of oilseeds in Ukraine will be lower than last season’s by nearly 2 million tons, with expectations of around 19.3-19.5 million tons.
