Major Outage of Amazon Web Services Caused Issues on Coinbase and Other Platforms

Coinbase та інші платформи зіткнулися з проблемами через збій в Amazon Web Services

On October 20, 2025, a serious outage occurred in the cloud service Amazon Web Services (AWS), leading to widespread disruptions in the functioning of various online platforms around the world. The services most affected were those whose infrastructure is based on AWS, particularly the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.

How the Outage Affected Users

The outage began in the US-EAST-1 region and was related to issues with the DynamoDB service. As a result, thousands of users faced difficulties accessing their accounts on Coinbase. Some customers were unable to log into their profiles, and certain transactions remained unprocessed even after the exchange partially resumed operations.

“We are aware that many users are currently unable to access Coinbase due to the AWS outage. Our team is working to resolve the issue, and we will provide updates here. All funds are secure.”

In addition to Coinbase, disruptions were also observed in popular services such as Zoom, Signal, Slack, Canva, Roblox, Reddit, Hulu, EA, and Xbox Network. The incident also affected the financial sector—specifically, banks like Barclays, Lloyds, and Bank of Scotland reported difficulties with their digital services.

Market Reaction and Consequences

The outage even impacted AWS’s own support service, complicating the response to customer issues. Representatives of the cryptocurrency community expressed dissatisfaction, emphasizing that the centralization of project infrastructure undermines the principles of decentralization, as most services rely on AWS operations. In particular, complaints were related to disruptions on the Infura platform.

Amazon Web Services has long been a key player in the cloud computing market, supporting dozens of leading online projects. However, this centralization makes numerous services vulnerable to technical failures. The exact scale of the incident and potential financial losses are currently difficult to ascertain.

It is worth noting that similar incidents have occurred before. For instance, in April 2025, issues with AWS led to temporary outages on the Binance and KuCoin exchanges.
