Ukraine to Allocate 26% of GDP for Security and Defense in 2025

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that all funds raised in the country will be directed towards financing the defense sector. In 2025, Ukraine plans to spend 26% of its gross domestic product on this sector.

It is worth noting that since the beginning of the year, 13 enterprises in the defense-industrial complex (DIC) have received preferential loans totaling ₴968 million. Primarily, manufacturers of electronic warfare systems, drones, and ammunition are applying for these loans. Currently, about 75 applications from defense enterprises are under consideration at various stages.

Financing for DIC Enterprises

According to the Ministry of Finance, the largest creditor of DIC enterprises last year was Oschadbank. It issued six loans totaling ₴9.86 billion and participated in a consortium loan of ₴2.38 billion. Since the onset of the full-scale war, Oschadbank has provided over ₴17.1 billion in credit to the DIC.

Military Assistance from Germany

Additionally, Germany has delivered another package of military assistance to Ukraine. This package includes dozens of mine-resistant vehicles, firearms, Zuzana-2 howitzers, hundreds of drones, demining equipment, and tens of thousands of artillery, tank, and air defense ammunition.
