Economic Recovery in August Driven by the Agricultural Sector
According to the Institute of Economic Research, in August 2025, the growth rate of real GDP accelerated to 8% year-on-year. The main driver of this acceleration was agriculture, particularly the shift in harvest timing. In July, GDP contracted by 0.5% due to a 26% decline in the gross added value of the agricultural sector. However, in August, the 37% growth in agriculture significantly boosted the monthly GDP dynamics. Experts note that in August 2025, wheat harvest volumes exceeded last year’s figures by 250%, while barley surpassed them by 100%.
“The acceleration of economic growth is linked to the dynamics of agricultural development, particularly the later harvest.”
Positive Trends and Challenges in Specific Sectors
Positive changes are observed in several sectors of the economy. The manufacturing industry increased its added value by 6%, made possible by stable demand, the recovery of the food industry, and government procurement of defense products. The trade sector maintained a growth of 3% amid timely salary payments and social benefits, as well as wage increases caused by labor shortages. Electricity production rose by 10% compared to the low base of last year, when mass consumer outages occurred.
Despite the overall positivity, some sectors continue to show stagnation. In particular, the mining industry reduced its added value by 7% due to the loss of coal mines. This trend was partially offset by an increase in the extraction of construction materials. In the transportation sector, added value decreased by nearly 10%, linked to the halt of gas transit, the temporary suspension of oil transit, and a reduction in railway transport volumes.
