Potential of Ukrainian Silicon Deposits
According to experts, the reserves of silicon quartzites in Ukraine currently exceed 180 million tons. In addition, the country has deposits of high-quality crystalline quartz, which significantly strengthens Ukraine’s position in the European raw materials market for semiconductors. The main deposits are concentrated in the Zhytomyr, Lviv, Transcarpathian, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, and Donetsk regions.
This opens up new opportunities for attracting investments, creating silicon clusters, and integrating into global technological chains.
Silicon Market Situation in the Russian Federation
Meanwhile, in the Russian Federation, the largest producer of refined silicon – the company “Kremniy” – has announced a complete cessation of operations starting January 1, 2026, due to loss of competitiveness. Another production facility, “Kremniy Ural,” will continue to operate partially. Both plants belong to the sanctioned company “Rusal.”
Given these factors, Ukraine has a unique opportunity to strengthen its position in the global semiconductor market by attracting investors and developing industry infrastructure.
