Industry Potential and Expected Changes
Hennadiy Khirhiy reported that last year, the production volume of the domestic defense industry reached $10 billion, although the industry’s potential was $20 billion. He predicts that by the end of 2025, this figure could rise to $35 billion. The top manager believes that the current conditions are favorable for significant progress in the export of defense products.
“Instead of complete openness, there will be liberalization with the possibility of approving individual export contracts,” he suggested.
Export as a Driver for Defense Industry Development
According to the head of “UkrArmoTech,” revenues from arms exports are an important source of foreign currency resources, allowing for the purchase of components, technologies, and raw materials, as well as financing the country’s defense needs. Long-term export contracts provide companies with confidence in production planning for many years ahead.
At the same time, in Switzerland, the upper house of parliament supported an initiative to ease strict controls on the export of military products, including to conflict zones. However, the final decision still needs to be made by the lower house.
