The study, which involved over 4,400 adult Americans, showed that anxiety regarding artificial intelligence is rapidly increasing. 71% of respondents are convinced that AI has the potential to radically change the structure of the labor market, despite the fact that unemployment in the U.S. currently remains at a relatively low level – 4.2% in July 2025. Many people are worried about how the implementation of new technologies will affect their professional activities, entire industries, and everyday life.

“According to the study, 71% of respondents believe that AI could permanently leave ‘too many people’ unemployed. While the unemployment rate in the U.S. remains relatively low (4.2% in July 2025), many express concern about how such technologies are changing jobs, industries, and daily life.”

Anxiety about Security, Energy Consumption, and Social Changes

Since the launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI at the end of 2022, public attention to artificial intelligence has significantly increased. Tech giants, including Meta, Alphabet, and Microsoft, are actively developing their own AI-based solutions, which maintains a high level of interest among the population.

In addition to concerns about the labor market, 77% of respondents believe that artificial intelligence could be used to spread political misinformation, including creating realistic videos of fictitious events. Nearly half of Americans (48%) oppose the use of AI in the military sector, while 24% support such an idea, and 28% are undecided.

Another important topic for Americans has become the energy consumption of the AI industry: 61% expressed concern about the amount of electricity consumed by data centers. Social aspects have also not gone unnoticed: two-thirds of survey participants fear that people will begin to prefer interacting with artificial intelligence over real relationships.

Regarding the impact of AI on education, opinions are divided: 36% believe that technologies will have a positive effect, 40% hold the opposite view, while the rest could not determine their stance.

Overall, the results of the study demonstrate a growing level of anxiety among American society regarding the social, economic, and political consequences of implementing artificial intelligence.
