Mykolaiv has joined an international initiative to utilize energy-efficient technologies for the restoration of its housing stock. This has been made possible through collaboration with the German government organization for international cooperation (GIZ) under the FELICITY II program, which aims to finance low-carbon infrastructure in cities across Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Comprehensive Support for the Restoration of Affected Buildings
After signing a memorandum with GIZ, Mykolaiv became one of the cities implementing a pilot program for energy-efficient housing reconstruction. With financial support from donor organizations, the city will receive assistance at various stages: from the development of project and cost documentation and the formation of urban teams of specialists to enhancing their qualifications and implementing climate-oriented solutions. Special attention will be given to the restoration of ten apartment buildings that were damaged as a result of Russian shelling.
“It is planned to develop projects for the restoration of 10 buildings damaged due to Russian shelling. The development of project and cost documentation is expected to begin by the end of September, with completion anticipated at the beginning of next year.”
Expansion of the Program and Opportunities for International Funding
In addition to Mykolaiv, Kryvyi Rih has also joined the pilot program. In total, within the framework of the initiative, 20 projects will be developed for both cities, which may receive funding from the European Investment Bank. This opens up additional opportunities for the implementation of modern energy-efficient solutions on the scale of Ukrainian cities that have suffered destruction.
