Sanctions Against Russia: The US Prepares 500% Tariffs and New Restrictions for Russia’s Allies

Путіну доведеться обирати: переговори й завершення війни або колапс економіки. Конгрес готує 500% мита проти союзників РФ.

Tensions are rising in the US regarding Russian aggression in Ukraine. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham stated that he has the support of 72 colleagues in the Senate for a bill that proposes broad sanctions against Russia. The main idea of the document is to apply “devastating” economic measures aimed at forcing Russian leader Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table and end the war in Ukraine.

New Sanctions and Economic Pressure

According to the bill, a 500% tariff on imports from countries that purchase Russian hydrocarbons or uranium is proposed. Additionally, the document prohibits US citizens from buying Russian sovereign debt, which will be a significant blow to Russia’s financial system.

“I want the war to end through negotiations, honestly and fairly,” — noted Graham.

Graham emphasized that “Putin will make a big mistake if he tries to play with Trump,” adding, “When Trump believes we have reached an impasse, then expect action.” According to him, the bill is likely to gain support even in the House of Representatives, and it will be brought to a vote soon.

Future Consequences for the Russian Economy

According to Graham, Putin will ultimately be forced to choose between the possibility of sitting down for negotiations with Trump and ending the war or allowing the Russian economy to suffer devastating consequences. This indicates an intensification of economic pressure on Russia from the US in the context of supporting Ukraine and countering Russian aggression.
