The US Considers Creating Core 5 as an Alternative to G7 Involving Russia and China

У Трампа заговорили про створення альтернативи G7 за участю п’яти країн, в тому числі Росії.

In Washington, the idea of establishing a new international alliance called Core 5 (C5) is being discussed, which may include the US, China, Russia, India, and Japan. This format is expected to serve as an alternative to the existing Group of Seven (G7) and unite traditional global rivals in a common coalition.

Features of the Core 5 Concept

As noted by a former White House official who served during the first Trump administration, the idea of creating such a coalition is not surprising, as there have been previous discussions suggesting that traditional international structures—specifically the G7 or the UN Security Council—do not reflect modern geopolitical realities. The new format proposes to focus on cooperation among the world’s largest states, which often act as competitors on the global stage.

Possible Implications for the World Order

National security analysts emphasize that the C5 concept aligns with Trump’s approach to international relations: it is free from ideological constraints, anticipates cooperation with other major powers, and shows sympathy for strong leaders. At the same time, the absence of European countries in such an alliance may indicate a desire to grant Russia the status of a regional leader and likely weaken the role of the US among its traditional allies in Europe.

It is known that during the previous term of the Trump administration, various strategic formats were considered, including the G2 concept for cooperation between the US and China. However, some American lawmakers have already expressed concerns that the formation of a new alliance could negatively impact the Pentagon’s readiness to deter potential conflicts in the Indo-Pacific region.

National security experts note that the creation of C5 aligns with Trump’s worldview: free from ideological constraints, sympathetic to strong leaders, and inclined to cooperate with other major powers.
