U.S. President Donald Trump expressed the possibility of signing a bill by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, which proposes to strengthen sanctions against Russia. Trump noted that this decision will depend on Russia’s actions towards peace.

“It will depend on whether Russia acts towards peace. We are striving for a peaceful agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The goal of the U.S. is to save lives and reduce costs associated with supporting military actions,” the president emphasized.
The bill on new restrictions not only includes the introduction of new sanctions against Russia but also imposes a 500% tariff on imports from countries that continue to purchase Russian energy resources, including oil, gas, and uranium.
However, as Politico points out, after signing the resource agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine, Trump found himself at a crossroads regarding the need to pressure the Kremlin. This agreement is unlikely to soften the resistance of Russian dictator Putin to Trump’s peace plan, and the White House currently does not know how to change this. The Trump administration also does not yet have a consensus on the next steps, including the imposition of new sanctions against Russia.
