Trump stated that new sanctions against Russia are currently inappropriate

Трамп вважає, що вдалий час для нових санкцій проти Росії ще не настав.

The administration of the United States is considering the possibility of implementing additional sanctions against Russia, including the introduction of increased tariffs on the export of Russian oil, gas, and other goods to intensify economic pressure on Moscow. However, U.S. President Donald Trump believes that it is not the right time to impose new restrictions.

Discussion of new sanctions in the U.S. Congress

Amid this discussion, the Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced his readiness to support a bill that proposes new trade and financial restrictions against Russia. He noted that senators are currently “discussing the time and date” for reviewing the document, which includes tariffs against countries that import Russian energy resources, as well as secondary sanctions for foreign companies that support Russian energy production. Thune emphasized: “The bill is ready… I think it’s time to move forward”.

Donald Trump’s position on sanctions

According to Thune, the consideration of the Graham-Blumenthal bill may take place within the next 30 days. Republicans are currently awaiting the official approval of the document by President Trump. The President, in turn, plans to hold consultations regarding possible sanctions with Republican leaders in Congress.

“I will talk to them a little later and we will make the right decision. I’m not against anything. I’m just saying that maybe now is not the perfect time,” Trump noted.
