Trump Will Support Arms Sales to Ukraine If It Benefits the U.S.

Трамп підтримає продаж зброї Україні, якщо вважатиме це "вигідною угодою" для США.

Former U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker believes that former President Donald Trump may approve the supply of weapons to Kyiv only if it aligns with the interests of the United States and appears to be a commercially beneficial deal.

Trump’s Approach to Military Aid

According to Volker, Trump primarily focuses on the profitability of deals for the U.S. He noted that the former president is not inclined to spend taxpayer money to support Ukraine, but may agree to arms sales if it benefits the American economy.

“For Trump, the main thing is a profitable deal. If he sees a benefit in it, he will support the sale of weapons. However, he will not want to spend budget funds on aid to Ukraine,” he stated.

Possible Support Mechanisms

Volker emphasized that Trump’s position as a businessman makes the development of the U.S. defense industry through arms exports more appealing to him than providing free military aid. The diplomat believes that a legislative initiative from Congress and the Senate could allow Ukraine to obtain loans for purchasing weapons. This way, the financial burden would not fall on American taxpayers.

Volker also noted that such a deal could be linked to energy or mineral resource issues, allowing Ukraine to pay for weapons while keeping the funds within the U.S. economy. If the agreement appears to be a transparent commercial operation, Volker believes that Trump would support such an initiative.
