Ukraine has completed the legislative procedures that allow for the immediate start of mass production of anti-personnel mines for the Armed Forces. The relevant law suspending the Ottawa Convention for Ukraine has been approved by the president, and now the industry is ready to quickly move to the production of these munitions.

Rapid Start of Production and Strategic Importance
Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, reported that technologically, the production of anti-personnel mines is not a complex process. This allows for their manufacture to be established in a short time, which is particularly important during a full-scale war.
In Kostenko’s opinion, the deployment of minefields will radically change the situation on the front and strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, especially along the state border. He emphasized that this will become an important element of the country’s defense system.
Scale of Minefields and Role in Border Protection
“Considering the border with Belarus and Russia – it is over 3,000 kilometers. And on this stretch, a minefield at least several dozen kilometers wide must be created. This is a preventive measure,” Kostenko noted.
He also stressed that fortifications alone cannot provide reliable defense. For effective protection, they must be combined with mine-explosive engineering barriers. Such a comprehensive approach will significantly enhance the security of Ukrainian positions and safeguard the country from enemy invasion.
