The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted an appeal to the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the EU, and the parliaments and governments of the EU member states, requesting the extension of trade preferences for Ukrainian exports. This decision pertains to the period until the completion of the review of the terms of the free trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

Main Provisions of the Appeal
In their appeal, the deputies urge the European Union to ensure the continuation of a mechanism similar to autonomous trade measures until the signing and entry into force of new agreements regarding updated annexes to the Association Agreement. They also demand the immediate commencement of negotiations and the simplification of the process for amending the relevant annexes of the agreement, particularly concerning mutual tariff concessions on the import of goods, taking into account trade results from recent years.
Negotiations on Trade Liberalization
According to the American newspaper Financial Times, instead of granting direct access to the EU market, the European Commission plans to discuss broader trade liberalization with Ukraine within the framework of the Association Agreement by June 5. The European Commission assures that “they are finalizing work on this proposal and will present it to Ukraine as soon as they can.” At the same time, the EU is working on creating a “legal bridge” in case the parties cannot reach an agreement by the established deadline.
“We are finalizing work on this proposal and will present it to Ukraine as soon as we can,” the EC stated.
