Agribusiness in Ukraine: only 3% of agricultural land sold in 3.5 years of land market

В Україні за 3,5 роки роботи ринку землі продали або купили 3% від загального обсягу сільгоспугідь. Агробізнес скорочує земельні банки.

In Ukraine, since the opening of the land market in July 2021, only about 3% of the total agricultural land has been bought or sold, which amounts to approximately 1% per year. According to Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky, the price of land has increased from ₴34,000 to ₴54,000 per hectare, and after the war ends, further growth is expected, which could range from 100% to 200%.

“In the EU, the annual classic turnover of land is about 2-3%,” noted Vysotsky.

According to analytical data, large landowners have reduced the area of their land plots by 8,225 hectares over the year. The number of companies owning more than 100 hectares of land has decreased from 283 to 217, of which 34 companies are registered in temporarily occupied territories. The largest landowners remain “Agrofirma ‘Svitank'” with over 5,000 hectares and “Druzhkivske Rudoupravlinnya” with 3,300 hectares. The third position is held by the company “Zernyatko-Pivden,” which owns 2,700 hectares.

Since the beginning of January 2024, the land market in Ukraine is open for business. However, despite hopes for increased purchases, businesses in most cases are opting to sell their land plots. Since the market opened to businesses, 2,554 land plots have been sold.
