Cherkasy Farmers Implement Growing Two Vegetable Crops per Season

Черкаські фермери планують оптимізувати бізнес і вирощувати два врожаї овочів на сезон.

The agricultural enterprise “Volya” from the Cherkasy region is implementing a new business strategy that aims to achieve two vegetable harvests within one season. Farmers announce that by 2026, they plan to sow 70 hectares of onions, 40 hectares each of carrots and beets, as well as 200 hectares of potatoes.

Increasing Area and Expanding Crop Variety

As part of business optimization, the company intends to plant early carrots and beets on areas of 7 hectares for each crop. After harvesting the first crop from these same plots, cauliflower, broccoli, and Chinese cabbage will be grown. Greenhouses are being prepared for growing seedlings to implement this plan. Additionally, “Volya” plans to grow 12 hectares of watermelons in tunnels.

Plans for Export and the Vegetable Market

The company is also actively exploring export prospects. In particular, trial sowings of dill and parsley have already been conducted for further drying on an area of 1 hectare. A large-scale project is currently being developed, which involves growing these crops on an area of up to 300 hectares.

It is worth noting that Ukraine increased its import of tomatoes by 4.3% (to 81,820 tons) and cucumbers by 13.6% (to 109,560 tons) from January to October of this year compared to the same period last year.

Recall that in July 2025, Ukraine imposed anti-dumping duties on the import of fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from Turkey at rates of 20.1% and 26.9% respectively, for a period of five years. These measures were implemented to protect Ukrainian producers from dumping imports that harmed domestic greenhouse farms.
