Potential and Support for Biogas Development
According to estimates, Ukraine is capable of producing up to 22 billion cubic meters of biogas per year. According to Vitaliy Koval, the government has already established the main conditions for the development of the biogas sector. Among them are the adoption of necessary legislative acts, the creation of a biogas registry, the implementation of a guarantee of origin system, as well as the launch of state support programs. In particular, there is a law stimulating investment projects exceeding €12 million.
Digitalization of the Sector and the Role of the Agrarian Registry
The official emphasized that the State Agrarian Registry could be used for the digitalization of the biogas market. This online platform will facilitate effective interaction among all market participants and allow for the automation of transparent distribution of state support in the bioenergy sector.
“Biogas is an effective use of agricultural waste and by-products to create high value-added products. And, most importantly, it ensures energy independence. Therefore, the development of bioenergy is among the priorities of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy,” added Koval.
