Main Destinations for Ukrainian Wheat Exports
Analysts note that the largest quantity of wheat in September was sent to Egypt — 700,000 tons, which is several times higher than last year’s figures (107,000 tons). Significant export volumes were also recorded to Indonesia — 417,000 tons (last year — 390,000 tons), Algeria — 175,000 tons, Vietnam — 126,000 tons, Yemen — 117,000 tons, and Tunisia — 101,000 tons. At the same time, Ukrainian exporters lost the Thai market: in September, no wheat was sent there, while a year ago exports amounted to 277,000 tons.
Export Dynamics and Impact on the Domestic Market
Since the beginning of the current season until October 8, Ukraine has already exported 6.94 million tons of grains and legumes, of which 4.98 million tons is wheat. This figure is 26.7% lower compared to the same period last year.
In October, there is a wheat shortage in the domestic market of Ukraine, typical for the autumn period. Over the past week, prices for food wheat have increased by 1-3 dollars per ton, and currently, 2nd-3rd grade grain is sold within 220-225 dollars per ton. Experts predict that by the end of October, prices may rise to 230 dollars per ton, and in January-February next year — to 250-260 dollars per ton.
