Starting May 1, 2025, Ukraine will mandate the addition of 5% biofuel to gasoline. Although ready-made blends continue to be imported at gas stations, Ukrainian producers have every chance to meet the demand for bioethanol by the end of the year, assured Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy.

Bioethanol Production in Ukraine
According to Vysotsky, the primary crop for bioethanol production in Ukraine is corn. This year, corn plantings will increase, and at least ten plants producing bioethanol are already operational in the country. New capacities are also planned to be launched by the end of the year, which will ensure additional production.
“Every ton of bioethanol represents three tons of corn that are taken off the export market and converted into added value within the country. It is important for us to build bioethanol plants and develop deep processing in Ukraine,” noted Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Koval earlier.
Advantages of Using Bioethanol
The implementation of bioethanol will not only reduce harmful emissions but also contribute to Ukraine’s energy independence, decrease imports of petroleum products, and support Ukrainian farmers who can supply the raw materials for its production. Gasoline with ethanol has been used for years in countries like the USA, EU, Brazil, and many others.
