У Канаді триває саміт G7, затьмарений загостренням на Близькому Сході й тарифами Трампа. Україну обговорять 17 червня.

The G7 summit is underway in Canada, during which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump. This was announced by a White House representative, noting that this will be the first in-person meeting between the leaders since April, when they last met at the funeral of Pope Francis.

Main Topics of the G7 Summit: Middle East, Tariffs, and the War in Ukraine

The G7 leaders’ meeting, which began on June 15, is taking place against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East and discussions regarding Donald Trump’s tariff policy. The participating countries are trying to persuade the U.S. president not to impose new tariffs, which could turn the summit into a series of bilateral negotiations instead of a joint discussion.

Among the priority issues on the agenda are the war waged by Russia against Ukraine and the question of aid to Kyiv. The leaders will pay special attention to funding for Ukraine’s post-war recovery.

The Ukrainian Issue and Expectations from Zelensky

President Zelensky announced plans for several bilateral meetings with G7 leaders during the summit. He emphasized the importance of the topic of sanctions against the Russian Federation and hopes that the issue of increasing pressure on the aggressor will be one of the key points during the event.

Zelensky stated that a number of bilateral negotiations with G7 leaders are planned as part of the event. He also hopes that strengthening sanctions against Russia will be among the main topics of the summit.

Discussions on the situation in Ukraine and the question of international support are scheduled for Tuesday, June 17.
