Reasons for Changing Security Approach
Since the beginning of 2025, the Taihuttu family has been forced to reassess their asset protection strategy due to the rising number of thefts in the crypto sphere. They abandoned the use of hardware wallets, as these devices, in Didi Taihuttu’s opinion, have become less reliable following the introduction of the controversial Ledger Recover feature. This option, which allows for the recovery of the seed phrase, has raised concerns within the crypto community and led the family to forgo hardware solutions for storing Bitcoin.
Unique Seed Phrase Storage System
To secure their savings, the family divided the seed phrase from their crypto wallet into four parts of six words each, which were hidden across different continents. Some of the words are engraved on fireproof steel plates, while others are encoded in the blockchain. Didi Taihuttu also altered some of the words in the phrase, so even if a fragment is found without the appropriate context, obtaining the key will be impossible.
According to Taihuttu, 65% of the family’s total assets are currently stored in four cold storage locations on different continents. These deposits can only be replenished, but funds cannot be withdrawn until the price of Bitcoin reaches $1 million. Didi Taihuttu is confident that this could happen by 2033, and these savings serve as a sort of “retirement” for the family.
The family conducts daily expenses and transactions through hot wallets, but additional security measures are also applied here, including Gnosis services. The family lost their previous trust in centralized exchanges after a massive data breach of Coinbase users that occurred in May 2025. Currently, Taihuttu opts for decentralized exchanges (DEX).
Forced Caution Due to Wave of Thefts
The family is currently in Thailand, although they initially planned to return to Europe. These plans were postponed due to a series of kidnappings in France, which prompted the family to take additional security measures. In particular, in May 2025, there was an attempted kidnapping of the daughter of the CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange Paymium along with his grandson, and the organizer of the crime was arrested in Morocco by June.
“We talked a lot about this as a family. My children also read the news — especially that story in France where the CEO’s daughter was almost kidnapped on the street,” he noted.
Didi Taihuttu admitted that he used to enjoy sharing content about the family’s lifestyle but stopped doing so after followers managed to locate their rented home in Thailand. As a result, the “Bitcoin Family” has become even more cautious regarding personal safety and asset protection, employing innovative methods for storing and managing cryptocurrency.
