According to experts, the risks of mass layoffs due to artificial intelligence are significantly overstated, as modern technologies still require human involvement for effective business operations.

Artificial Intelligence: Role in Work Processes and Impact on Employment
David Sachs, a White House advisor on cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence, emphasized that despite the rapid development of innovative technologies, predictions of large-scale layoffs due to the implementation of AI are exaggerated. He believes that even the latest AI models cannot fully replace human labor, as continuous expert intervention is necessary to create real value.
“AI is middle-to-middle, not end-to-end. People do things at the ends (oversight); AI does things in the middle.”
In his statement, Sachs highlighted that key decisions and management remain in human hands, while AI serves as a tool for performing specific tasks in work processes. The expert noted that even the most advanced models require verification and support from specialists to avoid errors and ensure effectiveness.
Microsoft Research and the Labor Market Situation
A recent study by Microsoft Research identified professions most susceptible to automation under the influence of AI. These include journalists, analysts, and technical writers—roles that have high applicability rates for AI in their activities. According to an analysis of over 200,000 anonymous Bing Copilot chats, artificial intelligence is most often used for data collection, text writing, and consulting. In particular, professions in reporting and copywriting have an AI usage rate of 0.38-0.39, while market analysts and data specialists have a rate of 0.35-0.36.
The crypto industry is also experiencing a reduction in job vacancies. It was noted that in July 2025, the number of available jobs in the sector significantly decreased, coinciding with official data from the U.S. Department of Labor: instead of the expected 100,000 jobs, only 73,000 were created.
David Sachs referenced the opinion of former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan, who asserts that AI does not take jobs away from people but merely displaces outdated models, facilitating the development of new technologies. Srinivasan emphasized:
“Today’s AI is not truly agentic. It allows for more tasks to be performed, but it does not operate completely independently,” Srinivasan stated.
In his view, the main competition occurs between different AI models. For example, Midjourney has displaced Stable Diffusion in the field of image creation, while GPT-4 has taken the place of GPT-3 among general-purpose language models. Analysts believe this underscores the importance of human oversight for maximizing the benefits of new technology implementations.
It is worth noting that recently, Google introduced Gemini Deep Think—a modern artificial intelligence model for solving complex reasoning tasks.
