PayPal has announced a significant expansion of support for its stablecoin PayPal USD (PYUSD), which now operates on eight additional blockchains, including Tron, Avalanche, Aptos, Abstract, Ink, Sei, and Stable. Additionally, the token versions on Berachain and Flow will be upgraded to the PYUSD0 standard. The company also confirmed the launch of PYUSD on the Stellar network.

Integration via LayerZero and New Opportunities for Users
The technological expansion has been made possible through integration with the LayerZero infrastructure and the Stargate Hydra bridge. This solution enables the issuance, burning, and cross-chain transfers of the PYUSD0 stablecoin, ensuring full interoperability of the new version with the original PYUSD. Users can now seamlessly move assets between different blockchains, not limited to just Ethereum, Solana, or Arbitrum, significantly expanding the token’s usability.
“Now any user who self-custodies their PYUSD can move it between networks without relying on traditional banking infrastructure,” emphasized Pellegrino.
PYUSD in the Context of Market Leaders and Development Dynamics
Despite the significant expansion, PYUSD still lags behind leading stablecoins in terms of market capitalization and the number of supported networks. According to CoinGecko data, the market leader USDT spans 12 blockchains with a capitalization of $171.2 billion, while USDC is supported on 25 networks with a volume of $74.3 billion. Currently, PYUSD ranks 11th with a capitalization of around $1.3 billion.
The stablecoin sector continues to show growth trends. In April 2025, the U.S. Department of the Treasury stated that the total market volume could increase from $295 billion to $2 trillion by 2028. An important impetus for development was the GENIUS Act, passed in July 2025, which became the first comprehensive regulation for stablecoins in the U.S.
Brian Pellegrino, CEO of LayerZero Labs, considers stablecoins to be the “killer application of cryptocurrencies” and notes that PayPal’s integration demonstrates a shift towards a new financial system without interruptions and borders.
It was previously reported that PayPal launched a new payment platform, PayPal World.
