Poland Aims for Leadership in Transporting American LNG

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini emphasized that Poland will begin supplying American liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Slovakia, which will allow for a gradual reduction in reliance on Russian energy resources. Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated the intention to make the country a key energy hub for the Central and Eastern European region. An LNG terminal is already operational in Świnoujście, and the construction of another terminal in the Baltic Sea is nearing completion. Additionally, there is an interconnector between Poland and Slovakia that enhances gas transit capabilities.

“In Poland, we have an LNG terminal in Świnoujście. The construction of the terminal in the Baltic Sea will also be completed soon. We have an interconnector with Slovakia. Therefore, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe face an important task, in which we must be united: complete independence from Russian gas,” he emphasized.

Ukraine and Poland Develop Cooperation in the Energy Sector

Since 2017, Ukraine has been importing American LNG through Poland. Currently, negotiations are ongoing between the Polish company PKN Orlen and Naftogaz regarding the conclusion of a long-term contract for energy resource supply. Deepening the partnership between Poland and Ukraine could serve as a foundation for creating a regional gas hub, strengthening the energy security of Central and Eastern European countries.
