Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi port in the Odesa region plans to launch a new railway route by the end of the year for transporting transit cargo from Asia to European Union countries. This route, which runs from Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi to the Romanian city of Galați, has a total length of 320 km, of which 182 km are in Ukraine, 129 km in Moldova, and 9 km in Romania.

Reconstruction of Railway Infrastructure
The opening of the new railway route will be made possible by the major reconstruction of the railway section “Benderi-Bessarabia-Etulia-Jurjulesht” in Moldova. The total cost of modernizing the 230 km railway line is estimated at 108 million euros, and the project is being implemented with the support of the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Advantages of the New Route
The completion of the reconstruction work will lift restrictions on the weight and speed of freight trains, leading to an increase in speed up to 90 km per hour. This, in turn, will positively impact the safety of transportation, reduce delivery times for cargo, and create optimal conditions for the efficient operation of the railway section.
The new route is significant for transit logistics in the region, as it will provide convenient connections between the railway systems of Ukraine, Moldova, and the European Union.
