The head of the state enterprise “Administration of Seaports of Ukraine,” Oleksandr Semyrha, reported that before the start of the Russian invasion, 13 seaports were operational in Ukraine. Currently, only six remain in operation. According to him, although systematic missile and drone strikes from Russia have damaged about 400 infrastructure facilities, including docks, loading equipment, vessels, and auxiliary machinery, Ukrainian ports maintain their operational efficiency and play a crucial role in the country’s economy.

The Need for Funding to Modernize the Port Sector
Semyrha emphasized that work is actively underway to update the technical base of the fleet, digitize processes, and enhance management efficiency, which is expected to strengthen the long-term stability of the sector. The cost of the necessary technological upgrades is estimated to be in the tens of millions of euros, and the implementation of these projects requires support from international partners.
Development of Cooperation Between Ukrainian Ports and the EU
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian port of “Chornomorsk” has signed a four-year agreement with the Latvian port of “Ventspils.” This partnership aims to develop sustainable logistics, exchange experiences, and strengthen Ukraine’s ties with European Union markets.
