A New Waste Management System for CHP Plants Using Renewable Fuel Will Be Implemented in Ukraine

В Україні запроваджуватимуть нову систему з управління відходами, що також передбачатиме створення ТЕЦ на відновлювальному паливі.

A new waste management system is being developed in Ukraine, which involves the creation of cluster concepts. The first concept will be a project for the Uzhhorod cluster in Transcarpathia. Experts are already analyzing the current waste management system and assessing the volumes of waste generation for the next ten years.

According to forecasts, by 2034, the population of the Uzhhorod cluster, including internally displaced persons, could reach 285,000, with waste volumes amounting to approximately 144,000 tons per year. As part of this project, it is planned to launch a sorting station, a mechanical-biological treatment facility, and a modern landfill for waste disposal. Additionally, the possibility of creating a combined heat and power plant (CHP) based on renewable fuel made from waste is being considered.

There are also plans to establish at least 16 points for the separate collection of household waste by 2034. The introduction of a cluster waste management system aims to enhance the resilience, competitiveness, and efficiency of enterprises engaged in waste management in this area, making them more attractive for investment.
